Water Seepage from Basement Crawl Space
A customer in Rochester NY called concerning water build-up in their basement crawl space which started causing seepage into the lower level living area. The customer had found that the condensation line from the furnace was just placed on the gravel floor, which was to be absorbed into the ground, but failed to do so. As a solution, the customer had run a temporary line by adding plastic tubing which ran across the floor into the powder room toilet. Looking this over, we suggested running a drain line with a funnel trap.
New PVC Drain Line Installed – Water Problem Solved!
We ran a new PVC drain line and connected the old condensation line to it with a PVC coupling and p-trap. In order to run the new PVC drain line we had to cut into the copper drain line that was initially used in the crawl space, install a copper wye (Y) with a female adapter so that we could switch from copper to PVC and then run the new PVC line. This solved the customer’s water problem.

New 3 Handle Tub and Shower Valve Installation
While we were there the customer asked us to install their new 3 handle tub and shower valve. We opened up the access panel in the bathroom closet behind the tub wall. We had to open up the wall a little more than what was available. We then cut out the old tub and shower valve. We installed the new valve and new finish trim. Customer decided not to change the shower head since they liked the style of the old shower head better.
Handling Frozen Water Spigot
Customer also had us look at their outside hose spigot. They noted they had frozen water drips on the spigot. We advised the customer to replace their stop and waste shut-off valve with a new ½ ball valve and replace their old spigot with a new hose bib. Customer went ahead with what we advised.
